SBG's Mexico Retreat , one word, amazing!
|
What can we say, the SBG crew (scene to the left enjoying the warm surf) came out in full force for this years Mexico retreat. Held at the beautiful resort in Puerto Vallerta, the event featured five days of training, yoga, and general fun!
Needless to say the retreat was a success, with members already asking when we will host the next one.
Here is an exciting update. on April 13th - 15th we will be hosting our next Spring Camp in Kalispell Montana! The event will be at Travis Davison's newly remodeled SBG Montana Gym, and it will be unlike anything we've done before.
In the past our Camps have always been popular, but, we've decided to shake things up. This years spring camp will feature a brand new teaching format, a different schedule of events, lectures, presentations, and specific modules designed separately for competitors, coaches and gym owners. This will be unlike any previous SBGi camp!
Confirmed coaches include Karl Tanswell from the UK, Steve Whittier from SBG East Coast, Travis, Matt and many others.
In the coming weeks we will have full details, including a break down of the camp schedule, and links so you can pre-register.
You DO NOT want to miss this on!

John Kavanagh rocked the Portland SBG
|
No, that's not John Kavanagh to the left, that's none other than the legend himself, Karl Tanswell, standing with Rickson Gracie; he's pretty good as well ; )
We just had to find a reason to put this photo in here. There have been so many amazing competitions, event, and things happening with SBGi, its impossible to keep up.
But, one of the cooler events of the year Was Kavanaghs end of Nov seminar at SBG world headquarters in Portland.
We've had tons of seminars over the years, but none have received the kind of positive feedback John's clinic produced. Look for John to return sometime in 2012!

Meet Professor Boghossian
|
Those of you from the Portland SBG may be familiar with Pete. But if you are an SBG'r that isn't familiar with him yet, you will want to check out his work. Pete currently teaches philosophy at PSU here in Portland. But his speciality is critical thinking, and it fits right in with everything SBG is about, authenticity, challenging ones ideas, thinking clearly, and evolving.

Gold after gold after gold...
|
As mentioned above, we just cannot keep up with the constant string of wins coming in from the SBG's around the world. Suffice it to say that our % of wins per competitor continues to exceed anything else out there. It is not an exaggeration to say that the SBG training model is still light years beyond the industry standard, and our athletes prove it everyday.
As part of our ongoing newsletter we will feature a match showcasing an athlete. In this one we want to introduce brown belt Casey Jones from SBG_UK.
Here is the video from Casey's match, and an excellent example of well done BJJ, SBG style. Notice the consistent pressure Casey puts on his opponent with sweep after sweep. Notice how these sweeps are all the core fundamentals we drill daily here (as you've heard at a higher level, brown-black belt, that is what works); and finally, notice how relaxed Casey is the whole time. All signs of someone with a great guard.
His opponent, unable to pass, drops in for a footlock; bad idea. Casey finishes with a well executed choke from guard. Awesome match!
